Vikings Football keeps it rolling

The Vikings drove into Sylmar last friday expecting to decimate the lowly Spartans. After a two hour trek up the 405, the boys showed up in the Valley ready to rock.

To start the game, Sylmar had a huge kickoff return to midfield. However after obtaining this return, the Spartans weren’t able to do anything. Samo’s defense forced Sylmar into a field goal attempt. After a botched snap, Sylmar kicker Pablo Leon (Class of 2024 K/P) picked up the ball and made an athletic play punting the ball inside the five. Despite pinning Samo deep, the Vikings offense led by Wyatt Brown (Class of 2026 QB) was unfazed in spite of some penalties obtained by the offensive line.

In the second, the Vikings capped off their long drive with a Caden McCallum (Class of 2024 RB/LB) scamper into the endzone, putting them up 7-0. On the next Sylmar drive, the Vikings forced a three and out, getting the ball back around midfield. Once in the red zone, Brown looked for David Solis-Valdovinos (Class of 2024 WR/CB) in the corner of the endzone but the opportunity was spoiled by an athletic interception by Jayce Mims (Class of 2024 WR/CB). Sylmar however was not able to take advantage of the turnover as Darian Hawkins (Class of 2026 FS/WR) intercepted the Sylmar quarterback. The Vikings would not squander this opportunity however as McCallum would rush it in from a couple yards out, and he would add a two point conversion to put the Vikings up 15 late in the second. The Spartans again would throw an interception as Caden McCallum (Class of 2024 RB/LB) found himself with the ball running the other way. After a Sylmar stop in the red zone however, the Vikings looked to Osbaldo Rivera (Class of 2025 K) from twenty-six yards out. Rivera nailed the kick putting the Vikings up 18-0 at the half.

In the second half, the Vikings received the ball, and went on another long drive. The Vikings handed Devin Lee (Class of 2025 ATH) the rock at the thirty-one yard line of Sylmar where he found daylight, and Lee would rush down the left sideline to put the Vikings up 25. After that, David Solis-Valdovinos (Class 0f 2024 WR/CB) intercepted the Sylmar quarterback, and the Vikings fumbled.

In the fourth there was more of the same as Sylmar would get a field goal blocked by Jayden Montanez (Class of 2024 TE/DE/ATH). The Vikings would then fumble again late keeping the score at 25-0. By the end of the game Santa Monica decided put fan favorite Marcus Tombago-Ferrer (Class of 2024 DT/OT), into the game. "Geezy" as his teammates call him would make some excellent blocks and moves against the Spartans, including performing his iconic “Geezy-spin”.

Final: Santa Monica 25-Sylmar 0

Throughout this one, The Vikings defense would hold solid, forcing three interceptions, and numerous punts. The defense was a wall against any attempts for Sylmar, allowing nothing to be put on the scoreboard. Offensively the Vikings will look to improve, as multiple fumbles and an interception prevented a completely dominant game. The boys travel to Port Hueneme to play Hueneme Vikings next week, and after that they have their bye week before going into league. They will look to use the Viking bash to sure up any loose ends before finding themselves in a game with the South Bay's top squad, The Palos Verdes Seakings.
